Summer Recap: How Our Team Has Grown!
Each year the Sound Stewardship team likes to give a brief update of what our families have been up to. Although the pandemic is not over yet, some parts of life are getting back on track.
As a firm, Sound Stewardship has grown over the last twelve months!
- We crossed over $200 million in managed assets for the first time ever.
- This growth has allowed us to hire three new team members to help support all our great clients.
- The team is mostly back to working in-person in the office even though client meetings are still largely via Zoom. However, a “slight” water main issue in the building meant a temporary relocation back to our home offices again for a few weeks!
- We have enjoyed giving away more than $50,000 from the Sound Stewardship Foundation! This year, the team donated to over a dozen organizations, focusing mostly on local pandemic relief and emergency medical care in South Asia.
Here is a glimpse of how the team spent their summer:
Matt
The Syverson Family enjoyed another summer of Jeeping around the country and the impact of Kanakuk Family Kamp in Branson, MO. This year at Kamp, Levi asked to be baptized, and Matt got the honor of helping with that, while Grace & Sophie worked as Kamp counselors all summer long! In August the whole family took Grace & Sophie back to Stillwater, OK, for their Sophomore year at Oklahoma State University. Lily (8th grade) and Levi (5th grade) will be “top dogs” at their respective schools while Tammy and Matt wrap up a summer-long remodeling project.
Jonathan
Jonathan and his family moved back into their home after an 8-month remodeling project on their 130 year-old house. In addition to living in Ireland for 100 days, they were able to take some fun camping trips and use all their cast-iron cooking accoutrements again. Now they’re enjoying having the kids back in school, shuttling between three schools at once for their 5th, 7th, and 9th graders.
Joel
This summer Joel and his wife enjoyed having his parents and sister visit, who they haven’t seen since summer of 2019. Joel enjoyed showing them around Kansas City and also took them to the Auschwitz Exhibit at Union Station. Finally, they visited the KC Buffalo Company which is only a mile from Joel’s home!
Ambra
Ambra and her family spent 2 weeks in Panama City Beach Florida this June. They loved the beach & playing Goofy Golf! They also visited Sound Stewardship’s own Cindy St. John and her husband Ricky at their Butterfield home in Arkansas. At home, Ambra completed a bathroom remodeling project and learned that she never wants to tile again! In July, Ambra’s son celebrated his 7th birthday on Independence Day with the Blue Angels & Thunderbirds from the Kansas City Airshow flying over.
Cindy
Since retiring in December, Cindy’s husband Ricky has been busy with her honey-do list over the summer. They also enjoyed getting to spend time with their six grandchildren including their newest granddaughter Ella. The highlight of the summer was when they took the entire family to Panama City Beach in May!
Derek
In the beginning of the summer, Derek and his family took a trip to Ft. Lauderdale. His son, Dallas enjoyed time at the beach and pool with the grandparents and Derek and his wife had some great seafood! They also took a trip to Table Rock lake to surprise Derek’s wife for her 30th birthday. Her parents were able to drive up from Phoenix to surprise her, which made her birthday extra special. Later this summer Dallas turns 2!
Josh
Josh celebrated his first work anniversary with Sound Stewardship this year on June 15th. He also reached the halfway point for his CFP® coursework and is on track to get the CFP® marks in 2022! On a more personal note, Josh became engaged to his now-fiance Eliannah at the end of June and they have spent much of their summer preparing for their October wedding. They also explored new hiking trails in the Kansas City area and visited Josh’s family in Illinois.
Jordan
Jordan joined the Sound Stewardship team in June as a Client Care Associate. He also spent a lot of time together with his family, especially at the pool! As a family, they also went to a drive-in movie theater, spent an entire day exploring the Kansas City Zoo, and sent the kids to horse camp to learn how to ride and care for horses. Finally, Jordan and his wife spent time preparing for their newest addition to their family Zoey Joy, who joined them at the end of July!
Ben
Ben also joined the Sound Stewardship team in June as one of our new Client Care Associates. Due to travelling back and forth to Kansas City for his new position, Ben and his family chose to focus on “staycation” style activities near their home in Lincoln, NE. They enjoyed finding many nature and wildlife preserves in their area to hike around for day trips. His sons also played flag football at the beginning of the summer, which kept them busy going between practices and games!
Heatherlee
Heatherlee is our newest team member at Sound Stewardship. Working virtually from Houston, Texas, she joined us at the end of summer as the new Marketing Coordinator. Heatherlee and her husband Daniel have two children, Carson and Adalee. They enjoyed a vacation to Disney World this summer and several trips to Galveston Beach.
