Our Story

Sound Stewardship, LLC owners Matt Syverson and Jonathan Harrison.
Our Beginning
Sound Stewardship was founded by Matt Syverson in 2004. Originally established as Syverson & Company, the firm has always been an independent, fee-only financial planning practice dedicated to transparency and values-driven service.
Matt’s journey as an advisor began with two years at a national advisory firm, followed by two years at his father’s fee-only firm in Iowa. “As a Fee-Only advisor, you can look your client in the eye and know that you’re recommending what is in their best interest,” Matt says. When he and his wife Tammy decided to relocate to Kansas City in 2004 to start his own firm, he was passionate about helping clients in every aspect of their financial lives.
Growing Together
Since then, Sound Stewardship has grown, evolving in name, welcoming new team members, and bringing on a new partner. However, our original mission remains unchanged: guiding clients toward confidence and contentment through faithful financial decision making.
After joining us in 2015, Jonathan Harrison later became a co-owner of Sound Stewardship, the first to do so since the firm’s founding. This shared ownership model brings meaningful benefits to our clients. By building a team of dedicated owners, we’re strengthening the foundation of Sound Stewardship and ensuring its long-term stability. Our goal is to create a lasting firm that serves you and your family for generations to come.
Through both market highs and lows, our clients’ well-being has remained at the heart of everything we do. Sound Stewardship has grown by staying committed to helping clients navigate their financial journey with wisdom and integrity.
