A Season of Milestones and Growth at Sound Stewardship

A Season of Milestones and Growth at Sound Stewardship

It’s been an exciting season here at Sound Stewardship! Every year we reflect on the key moments our team has experienced. From celebrating major milestones to expanding our services and expertise, we’re eager to share a growing list of ways we’re improving our services for you.

  • In May, we marked a significant moment—our 20th anniversary as a firm. To celebrate, we hosted an Open House at our new office space, surrounded by clients and community members. If you haven’t stopped by yet, we’d love to give you a tour during your next visit!
  • One of our priorities has always been to invest in our community, and over the past year, our small team has logged over 70 hours of volunteer work together, in addition to supporting several local charities through the Sound Stewardship Foundation. Giving back has always been central to our mission, and it’s something we’re committed to continuing.
  • This year we’ve continued our popular monthly webinar series, with topics ranging from navigating travel and buying a car to the current state of the Kansas City real estate market. We’ve even tackled home and auto insurance tips to help you make informed decisions on coverage.
  • Finally, we’re excited for the upcoming launch of our e-book about The 7 Principles of Sound Stewardship. This resource encapsulates the core principles that guide our approach to financial stewardship and planning.

Recent team member highlights:

  • Our managing partner, Matt Syverson, led a mastermind group for faith-based advisors at a Kingdom Advisors retreat and appeared on the national FaithFi Radio Show, where he shared insights on using ABLE Accounts and Special Needs Trusts for people with disabilities. Listen here!
  • We’re thrilled to welcome Kristin Schroeder as our new Marketing Manager. With a background in financial planning, Kristin is already bringing fresh marketing ideas and expertise to the team as we continue to expand our resources for you.
  • We’re hiring a Summer Intern for 2025! If you know someone who is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Personal Financial Planning, Finance, or a related field, we encourage them to apply. The application is available on our website and will be accepted until November 1.

Looking ahead, we have some exciting updates to share:

  • We have team members working toward their Certified Financial Planner certification, continuing our dedication to staying at the forefront of industry knowledge.
  • We’re updating our Client Service Calendar, enhancing the regular reports and deliverables we provide between quarterly client meetings.
  • We’re also re-creating our Financial Organizer tool and streamlining the onboarding process to make it easier than ever for new clients to get started with us.
  • Our Socially Responsible Portfolio model is being updated to reflect ongoing market developments, building on last year’s significant revisions to our Faith Driven Portfolio model.

Stay tuned for more updates, and as always, thank you for allowing us to be a part of your financial story!

In addition to the enhancements we’ve been working on at the office, the team has also been creating memories with their individual families. Read on for a look inside the recent adventures of our Sound Stewardship team!

The Syverson Family celebrated the college graduation of their twin daughters with a trip to the Dominican Republic.

It was a blessing to be able to take family photos on the beach and enjoy time together before Grace & Sophie launched into their careers!

Jonathan and Karen celebrated 20 years of marriage this year, enjoying a cruise with friends and a trip to Colorado with the kids.

It’s hard to believe their oldest is a senior in high school already!

This year, Joel undertook a project to paint the exterior of his house. He was fortunate to receive assistance from his sons, whose support was truly invaluable. Joel also had the pleasure of hosting his parents and sister for a week in August. They are featured in the photo that highlights the new paint color.

Derek, Tracy, Dallas, and Maggie traveled to Minnesota to cheer on Derek’s cousin, Nicole Hensley, and team Minnesota in the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) during their inaugural season. Nicole was the goalie during game 5 of the Walter Cup finals, which Minnesota won! They are anxiously awaiting the arrival of their newest addition in October.

The Spradlings enjoyed an excellent trip to Starved Rock State Park in Illinois for a family reunion with Josh’s side. They also took their 1 year old son on his first camping trip to Mark Twain State Park. It was a delightful summer watching their son go through many firsts.

The Buethe family appreciated another staycation filled with family bonding and fun adventures! Other summer highlights included hosting a family reunion, visiting in-laws in Kansas, as well as enjoying mini-golf and numerous baseball games. Finally, they embarked on a couple of day trips to Omaha where they visited the Strategic Air Command & Aerospace Museum and explored the Omaha Zoo!

This summer the Smith family enjoyed a wide variety of activities together. They spent an exciting day at The K cheering on the Royals, and also ventured to Branson to explore Silver Dollar City. They spent time on the lake at Keystone State Park in Oklahoma. Additionally, they kept active with plenty of outdoor fun at the pool and on the soccer and football fields, supporting the kids in their games.

This summer was a busy one for the Leibachs! They managed to squeeze in a spectacular two-week adventure, exploring the stunning landscapes of Yellowstone, the Grand Tetons, and the Black Hills. From geyser gazing to hiking mountain trails, it was an unforgettable experience. Ambra and her husband also enjoyed a well-deserved getaway to Oahu. Now they are transitioning into the fall routine and looking forward to cooler days.

Cindy enjoyed visiting with family and friends this summer. She had a great trip to Biloxi, MS and Branson, MO with her sister-in-law, Mary Jane. Cindy visited her first “Buc-ee’s” in Springfield, and the highlight of her trip was seeing Queen Esther at the Sight & Sound Theatre.  She ended the summer with her first 5K Walk/Run!

Kristin is the newest member of our team! She and her husband Chris recently embarked on their first trip to Europe together, prompted by Chris’s work. The rest of their summer was filled with cheering on their two daughters at swim meets, theater performances, and basketball games, as well as spending quality time in the garden.

We are thankful for the success our team has achieved this year! Here’s to a fantastic fall ahead!
