Top 10 Questions We Help Clients Solve

Financial Planning Puzzles

As I look back on 2025, I’m reminded that the most meaningful client conversations rarely start with market performance. Instead, they begin with the real-life questions and puzzles that clients bring to the table. Questions that reflect their hopes, concerns, and the complexities of their nuanced financial lives. Here are just a few of the puzzles our team helped clients solve this year:

  1. How much can we give away in retirement as we try to balance our responsibility to take care of our own household while still being generous?
  2. Do I have enough to retire?
  3. We want to take a special trip this year, can you help us plan for that?
  4. When and how should my estate and final wishes be shared with heirs?
  5. How do the recent tax law changes impact me?
  6. We’re concerned there may be layoffs coming. How should we prepare?
  7. Our insurance premiums increased and our coverage is up for review. Should we shop for new coverage?
  8. Do Roth conversions make sense right now or this year?
  9. What should I do with my company stock?
  10. Do you have a secure way for our household to share and store important account or password information?

Do you notice anything about the list above?

The questions asked didn’t have anything explicitly to do with the market performance for the year. Did we talk about market performance in client meetings? Absolutely. But market performance is not the main driver in our meetings. The most important part of our time together is understanding what’s weighing on you.  For most, our meetings are the only time they have to sit and wrestle with these uncertainties and decisions.

Tax and retirement planning software can be incredibly helpful, but clarity doesn’t come from software alone; it comes from identifying the real issues beneath the surface and addressing them with intention.
