Dates to Remember: Year-End Deadlines

With the end of the year quickly approaching, there are a number of important deadlines to keep in mind.


  • DEC 15 – Deadline for healthcare open enrollment for plans beginning Jan. 1 (More info on healthcare enrollment)
  • DEC 15 – Stock transfers for charitable giving (to ensure transfer time)
  • DEC 31 – Required Minimum Distributions for those 70 ½ or older
  • DEC 31 – Charitable contributions for this year (online or postmarked by this date if mailing checks
  • DEC 31 – Qualified Charitable Distributions for those 70 ½ or older
  • DEC 31 – Contributions to employer retirement plans like a 401(k), 403(b), or SIMPLE IRA (if employee)
  • DEC 31 – Contributions to 529 Plan education accounts for state tax deductions


  • APR 17 – Contributions to personal IRAs or Roth IRAs for 2016
  • OCT 16 – Contributions to SIMPLE IRAs (if employer) or SEP IRAs, if filing extension for 2016
