Principles in Practice: Think Beyond Yourself

A fun figure for Matt’s family to follow!

Back in 2007, my family starting noticing that I was routinely late or absent for dinner, due to self-imposed work demands.  I didn’t necessarily agree with that assessment until I starting tracking how many times I came home before 6pm, starting in 2008.  My tracking system consisted of using the chalkboard in our kitchen to post a “tally mark” for every time I walked in the door to my excited children and wife before 6pm.  Turns out, I was only home “B46” no more than 50% of the 260 business days in a year, which meant that I was missing one of the most important family events of the day the other half of the work week.  Each year I kept improving my statistics and each night my children would greet me with cheers and leap into my arms for a big hug and kiss. Fast forward to 2013 and the stats are in:  I achieved an 81% B46 rating and enjoyed a ton of table time with my family.

I am so thankful for the Sound Stewardship team and clients that have helped me adhere to the B46 program and achieve this level of success for family.  The next time we bump into each other, feel free to ask me how I’m doing.

What program do you need to create for 2014 that will enhance your life and the lives of those around you?
