What We’re Reading: Here’s Why You’re Arguing About Money (and How to Stop Now)

Money can be a major source of conflict in any relationship, especially marriage. We’ve written before that the main reason for this is that couples often have different “money scripts,” unconscious beliefs about money.

A recent article on Inc.com does a great job of summarizing the fundamentally three basic approaches to money: 1) to protect from pain, 2) for enjoying life, or 3) to take care of those you love. We agree with the author that if you think of money in one of these ways and your significant other thinks differently, conflict will arise. In addition to this great summary, the article gives helpful tips for bridging the gap between spouses.
